Public Projection was a mobile installation in Northern Ireland that focuses on the thoughts and experiences of people whose lives were impacted by the Troubles, and was part of the Lumiere art festival in 2013.
Interviews with people from both sides – and in certain cases no side – of the conflict were conducted at length, edited down to their essence, and incorporated into a video that was then projected from a repurposed ambulance, which was a neutral vehicle with a frequent presence in the war.
Videos illustrated the words spoken, rather than the subjects who spoke. This gave the interviewees a degree of anonymity and emphasized the specific words used. That emphasis was further strengthened by the selective repetition of certain phrases at the end of each segment.
