Project Description

Dates: Fall 2013

School: Harvard University GSD

Instructor: Panagiotis Michalatos

The Small Fiction Collider v0 is a web interface project that seeks to merge the tenets of improvisational theater with the act of writing via the constraint-driven and combinatorial approach to potential literature taken by Oulipo. Similar to improvisational theater, this work values an author’s flexibility of their authority and their decisiveness over their deliberation. It rewards their quick acceptance of other authors’ assertions with the opportunity to create coherent narratives in the face of unpredictable circumstances.

Up to eight different would-be authors may weave fictional stories together simultaneously, arranging symbolic images in intersecting sequences across a periodic surface, rationalizing and re-rationalizing the gaps in between the images with written text on the fly.
